Salem Church pays 100% of its Conference Tithes & District Apportionment’s for the worldwide mission work of the United Methodist Church. Support is also given to the following missions:

The Lebanon Children’s Home: Men compete versus women in a penny race throughout the year to benefit Lebanon Children’s Home, a treatment facility dedicated to helping emotionally troubled youth. 2015 donations totaled $2701.30!

The Food Pantry: Our church accepts food items and monetary donations weekly for the local food pantry in Clinton. In addition to food and paper products, $1800 was provided in 2015.

The 14th & Chestnut Community Center: Salem supports this mission with monthly financial support. In addition, donations of food, clothes, gifts, books, and school supplies are made throughout the year to help inner city children in Terre Haute. The 14th and Chestnut Community Center is a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of local children. The community center runs an after school program and other various programs throughout the year in order to ensure these children have what they need. There is a food pantry open to the community that is also run by the community center.

Mission Trip: A yearly mission trip is taken to UMCOR’s Center for Disaster Relief in Springfield, Illinois. In 2015, six students and seven adults served at the Midwest Mission Distribution Center from July 20-23 and worked on projects that will benefit people in need around the world.

Jail Ministry: Stamped Christmas cards are collected and given to the inmates at the Vermillion County Jail, so they can send cards to their loved ones. Cupcakes, watermelon, ice cream, and cookies are delivered as gifts of encouragement at various times throughout the year.

Men’s Group Home Mission: Monthly visits are made to provide company and encouragement for disabled men in a local group home. The men are treated to birthday and seasonal parties throughout the year.

Community Kitchen: Church members donate desserts each month to support the Community Kitchen, which is sponsored by Clinton Presbyterian Church, and provides food and fellowship to area residents.

Cluster Mission: The Wildcat Store at South Vermillion Middle & High Schools and the Falcon Store at North Vermillion Middle & High Schools are a Cluster-wide project to provide new or gently used clothing, bedding, toiletries, and other items for children in need at those schools.

Kid-Kare: Salem provides clothing and other needed items for two SVMS students through Kid Kare. Kid Kare Project, Inc. is a United Way agency, which provides material items and tutoring services to children belonging to financially burdened families.

CASA: Salem donates money and clothing for area children displaced from their homes through Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children, which is a network of nearly 1,000 community-based programs that recruit, train and support citizen-volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in courtrooms and communities.

Herman Mayes Memorial Bench: We are currently collecting plastic lids and caps that will be made into a bench for the courtyard or playground in honor of the late Herman Mayes.
